Total Joint Camp

Up and Moving the Next Day

Lakeland’s Total Joint Camp is an innovative approach to joint rehabilitation in an atmosphere of wellness. With an emphasis on patient education and rehabilitation therapy, the patient experience is less stressful and more focused on returning to normal daily activities. The homelike atmosphere and encouragement from the care team and other patients enhances the patient’s experience and often results in a shorter stay at the hospital.

If you or a loved one is experiencing joint pain, you may find it helpful to first attend a “Hip/Knee Pain Seminar” at sites throughout the community. If your diagnosis results in the recommendation by your primary physician for a total
knee or hip replacement, you will be referred to an orthopedic surgeon.

After a thorough evaluation, your surgeon will answer any questions you may have regarding the surgery
and will show you a video that includes answers to the most commonly asked questions about joint replacement surgery. You will also receive educational materials about joint replacement surgery from the orthopedic surgeon’s office.

Before your surgery, you will have the opportunity to attend a Total Joint Camp orientation which includes a discussion about what to expect after surgery. You’ll also meet members of your healthcare team and have an opportunity to ask questions.

Post-Surgery Rehabilitation

Total Joint Camp enhances the process of recuperation and rehabilitation through group activities with other patients who have had the same procedures. Patients motivate and encourage each other which aids the healing process, both physically and emotionally.

Reasons to Consider Lakeland’s Total Joint Camp

Patients who have participated in these program models have experienced the following benefits:
  • Patient education increases your understanding of the process and decreases anxiety.
  • The team approach speeds up your healing process.
  • When you go home, your friend or family coach is better able to effectively assist you in continuing rehabilitation.
