Flu-like Symptoms? We Have an App for That!

If you or a family member is experiencing flu-like symptoms, we want you to feel better faster. That’s why we’ve established a new service: video visits. From the comfort of home, Lakeland team members and their immediate family can be screened for flu-like symptoms and, if appropriate, prescribed antivirals.

If you or an immediate family member experiences flu-like symptoms, contact Southwestern Medical Clinic, Buchanan, at (269) 695-5540 within 48 hours of onset of symptoms to schedule a video visit. Please note their hours of operation are as follows:
Monday through Thursday – 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At the time of your scheduled video visit (no earlier than 10 minutes before) select "Begin Video Visit" button

Q: Will the video visit be covered by my insurance?
A: Yes, if it’s the Lakeland ASR plan; please check with your insurance company if you don’t have ASR because not all companies may cover this type of visit.

Q: Will I be charged a co-pay?
A: The co-pay is determined by your specific medical plan.

Q: Can I pick up my prescription at the hospital pharmacy?
A: No. These locations are not set up for retail sales. We will ask you to choose another pharmacy.

Q: What if my symptoms started more than 48 hours ago?
A: Still use this service; the provider will assess if you would benefit from still taking the antiviral medication. 

Q: Will they prescribe medications other than Tamiflu®? 
A: The main purpose of this visit is to screen for influenza like illnesses. The provider will use their knowledge and experience to offer other treatments.

Q: What is Tamiflu? 
A: Tamiflu is an antiviral drug. It can make the illness milder and shorten the time you are sick. It can also prevent serious flu complications like pneumonia. 

Q: What is the current circulating flu strain in our community? 
A: The most prevalent influenza strain is H3. 

Q: Will Tamiflu work on the flu strain in our community?
A: Yes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tamiflu is effective against the H3 strain.

A: Yes, you will need an active Lakeland MyChart account.

Q: Do I need to download the Lakeland MyChart App for this video visit?
A: Yes, if you are using a smartphone for your video visit. Visit www.lakelandhealth.org/pulsenewslink/flu for detailed instructions.

Q: How early can I log in to my video visit?
A: You may log in 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment.

Q: How late can I log in to my video visit?
A: If you log in 20 minutes or later after your appointment time, you will need to call the office to schedule a new appointment.

Q: What should I do if I have technical difficulties with the video visit?
A: You should call Southwestern Medical Clinic, Buchanan at (269) 695-5540.

Q: How long will the video visit take?
A: The video visit will take 10 minutes or less.
